Canine Health Information Center
Scout received his CHIC database number in the mail today. In order for a golden retriever to receive this, he needs to pass four particular health tests:
– a cardiologist exam for heart
– a canine opthamalogist exam for eyes
– a review of radiologists for his hip x-rays, usually taken under mild sedation for a good x-ray (must receive a rating of fair, good or excellent to pass)
– and a panel of radiologists reviewing and receiving a normal rating of elbows from x-rays
This is no easy feat and took us three separate appointments and drives to accomplish! In addition, Scout also had a thyroid test in which blood was drawn and submitted to an approved lab for processing in Texas. From there results were recorded and sent to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, Inc. We are happy to report he passed all his tests.
